For a child with Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and family, they had innate talents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin - Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Her mother, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed the business of Dublin and was also the owner of the well-known Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very adept in them. She combined this interest with an equally natural aptitude for performing. She won almost every Feis Award for Theater and Drama that her country had to give. At the age of 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her passion for classical theatre and singing opera.
